Metamorphoses

Synopsis
“Metamorphoses” is a documentary about artistic memory and the transformations of a family for whom art was breath, refuge, and destiny. Through the eyes of their son, Cristi Sîrbu, the film tells the story of his parents’ universe — the painter Andrei Sîrbu and the journalist-writer Antonina Sîrbu — two valuable creators who were far too little recognized during their lifetimes.
Having moved to the village of Văratec, his mother’s place of origin, Cristi relives his childhood among rocks and cliffs, guiding us through the places where the family once found its inspiration. From the personal archive emerge images of their youth, along with lesser-known photographs of Andrei.
The film concludes with an unconventional exhibition near a cave on a cliff — a symbolic space for their journey: once a place of wandering in the past and now a place of return.
“Metamorphoses” is a film about transformation, heritage, and gratitude, and about the way a son strives to keep the light of his parents alive.
